Fair doesn’t mean giving every child the same thing, it means giving every child what they need.

Introduction

This wiki has been created to demonstrate the concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).  This is my attempt to provide ALL learners with flexible methods to present, express and provide them with options for engagement when learning and reading the novel, 'To Kill A Mockingbird' by Harper Lee.

Universal Design for Learning has three main principles.  The principles are as follows:
Principle 1:  To support recognition learning, provide multiple, flexible methods of presentation
Principle 2:  To support strategic learning, provide multiple, flexible methods of expression and apprenticeship
Principle 3:  To support affective learning, provide multiple, flexible options for engagement
(David H. Rose & Anne Meyer, ASCD, 2002)

Animal School Video

Animal School Video by RaisingSmallSouls.com was reproduced from "Preparing our Children for Success" by R. Greenwald.  This video demonstrates the need to use the principles of UDL in our teaching practise.   It cleverly demonstrates the different types of learners using animals. The video is a little over six minutes long.  While you are viewing the video think about who the animals are in your class.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could create daily opportunities to engage ALL learners and accomodate their various learning styles.  In this environment they could learn at their own level and be active participants in the class demonstrating what they know.
